Former Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo, 71, suffered an ischemic stroke in Asunción.

He was rushed to Sanatorio San Roque, where he remains under induced coma and connected to mechanical respiratory assistance.

According to his doctor, studies indicate a relatively small injury, but further analysis will be conducted to determine the extent of the case.

Lugo had traveled to Colombia to attend President Gustavo Petro's inauguration.
